PRAYER AND PRAISE
Praise God for this school year. Through all the ups and downs that take place in 180 school days God has been faithful. The teachers have done a great job working with your children and the children have grown. For all of this we praise God!
Please pray for all our children and our families during the summer break. Pray for physical safety, but more importantly, please pray for the spiritual safety and growth of all our families.

TALKING POINTS
I was reading the devotional, Tabletalk, last week and came across a quote by Dr. T. David Gordon, an ordained PCA minister. Gordon was speaking about the need for literacy in God’s people. “The story the data tell is simple, consistent, and alarming. Although there has been measurable progress in recent years in reading ability at the elementary school level, all progress appears to halt as children enter their teenage years. There is a general decline in reading among teenage and adult Americans. Most alarming, both reading ability and the habit of regular reading have greatly declined among college graduates.” We praise God that at OCS reading scores continue to rise through eighth grade.

THINGS TO DO THIS SUMMER
Each year my last Blue Note contains the same recommendation for parents. Please make time to read with your children over the summer. Whether your children love reading or hate reading, summer is not the time to take a vacation from this life-long activity. In light of the information found in “Talking Points” reading is crucial for young people to grow as Christians and grow as functioning American citizens. So, what should you make your children do this summer? Make them read – and join them with a good book of your ownJ.
Even more important than reading is spiritual food. Please take time for family devotions during the summer. My father used to tell me, “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” Fill your child’s summer with devotional time and reading. By God’s grace you will be preparing your child for life in God’s Kingdom.

LAST BLUE NOTE
This is the last Blue Note of the 2009 – 2010 school year. The office staff thanks everyone for their efforts in getting announcements to the office in a timely manner. See you in September!

THANK YOU, MRS. DEMASTER AND MRS. LAMMERS
As the year closes we want to take the time to thank Mrs. Dawn DeMaster and Mrs. Brenda Lammers for faithfully planning and preparing the hot lunches all year. Many parents have also helped them, and we want all of you to know how much your labor is appreciated by students, parents, and staff alike. Be sure to thank Dawn and Brenda if you see them.

THANK YOU MOMS IN TOUCH
Thank you also to this wonderful group of moms who covered our school family in prayer throughout this school year.

CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES!
Although graduation takes place next week, we definitely want to take the time to officially congratulate our eighth grade students for successfully completing their work at OCS. We pray God blesses each of them as they continue their education in high school. Please join us as we celebrate eight grade graduation on Tuesday, June 8, at 7:15 PM in the school gym.

The mission of Oostburg Christian School is to provide a distinctly Christian quality education which will equip God’s children to function as Christians in society, church, and home.

CONCERT IN THE GRASS
The annual Concert in the Grass (or in the Student Center if it is raining), featuring our 5th – 8th grade band, will be held this Friday, June 4, at 2:30m PM. Bring your lawn chair and join us for this mini-concert!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
School will dismiss for the year at NOON next Wednesday, June 9. Buses and the van will run at that time.

LIBRARY CLOSING
The library will close this Friday, June 4, for the school year. All books should be returned by the end of the day Friday.

REPORT CARD PICK UP
Report cards can be picked up on June 15, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Please make an effort to stop in that day if you are able. Please also check out the overflowing Lost & Found Table. All items left after Report Card Pick-Up will be donated to the Good as New Store. All fines and fees must be paid and library books returned before students can have their Report Cards.

REGISTRATION FOR 2010 – 2011
Registration for the 2010- 2011 school year will be held Tuesday evening, August 10. New parents will be invited to register first, beginning at 6:30 PM. Returning parents will be allowed to register beginning at 7:00 PM. A registration packet will be sent to you a few weeks before registration. If you know anyone who may be interested in sending their child to O.C.S., please call the school office so we can contact them. Thank you.

2010 - 2011 SCHOOL SUPPLIES
The Student Supply List for the 2010 – 2011 school year is attached to this Blue Note for your summer shopping convenience. PLEASE read the list carefully and purchase the correct items. Some supplies that are sold now are more for entertainment than for actual school use and do not work well in the classroom. Save your money and buy only the basic items listed. Thank you.

IS YOUR CHILD REGISTERED FOR OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM?
Please make sure you register for our Three-School or 4K program if you are interested. Even if you have already pre-registered and paid the pre-registration fee, we still need you to register your child for the correct Early Childhood Program. Please call the school office for a registration form. Three-School must have eight students to be offered. Also, please let us know if you are interested in After-Care next year. This is another program whose existence is based on enrollment and use.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
The school office will be open from 8:00 AM to noon every Wednesday throughout the summer. Most other weekday mornings Mr. Adams or Mrs. Nyenhuis will be in the office, however, you should call the office to make sure someone is in if you want to stop by. Thank you.

TUITION PAYMENTS THROUGH THE SUMMER
Please remember that tuition is calculated over twelve monthly payments. This means tuition for June and July must be paid even though school is not in session. Please make sure your summer monthly payments reach the school office by the 15th of each month. Tuition payments may be mailed to school at the following address: Oostburg Christian School, PO Box 700319, Oostburg, WI 53070, or may be dropped off when either Mr. Adams or Mrs. Nyenhuis is in.

STUDENT ARTWORK AT COUNTY FAIR
If you visit the Sheboygan County Fair over the Labor Day weekend, don’t forget to stop in at the School Art Display building. Every one of our K-5 students, and some of our junior high students will have at least one piece of artwork on display for that weekend. We thank Curt and Betty Nyenhuis for volunteering to do the work of labeling and transporting the artwork to and from the Fair so our students can have their work displayed there.

NEW FAMILY REFERRAL
If a family that you refer to our school is enrolled for at least a semester, you will have a $750 tuition assistance package coming your way!   Besides the card you received several weeks ago, you can also pick up any number of brochures about our school to distribute to family and friends.   There are several different ones that may meet your need specifically:
    • Resource Room opportunities
    • Part-time/Home School student information
    • Two different general school information brochures
    • Early Childhood Brochures
    • Free 4-K package brochure
    • Just hot off the press: Cabin Fever Reliever promotion brochure.

PRIVATE NOTES
The Oostburg Christian School Board is seeking private notes to help finance the ongoing operations of the school as well as to repay a previously issued note that has been called in for payment. These notes will bear interest and terms as set forth in the schedule below. We are requesting a minimum note value of $1,000. Please contact Justin Zylstra at 207-9990 or Brian DeMaster at 564-6963 for more information.

SHARE THE HARVEST
Oostburg Christian School will be sponsoring Share the Harvest at the Oostburg Community Farmers Market during the 2010 season.  The season runs July 10 through the end of September and is held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon next to Oostburg State Bank.   O.C.S. is our rain location. Share the harvest volunteers help harvest and sell produce that is donated by gardeners in our community. We also distribute care packages to families in the community. Anyone interested in joining our volunteers, donating produce, selling as a vendor, or being a referral source for families with needs should contact Patti at 564-3221.

PRAISE THE LORD
Praise God with us that the telephone system is now fully funded and plans will go forward to install it this summer. If you would be available right after school is out to help pull wires for this, please contact the school office.

HAVE YOU PROVIDED FOR YOUR CHILDREN SHOULD SOMETHING HAPPEN TO YOU?
As some of you may know, my mother passed away in March, but my father passed away 46 years ago, without an updated will.   We have lived with the consequences of his non-planning for the last 46 years. DON’T DO THIS TO YOUR CHILDREN. Don Long, a Christian attorney from Barnabas Foundation will come alongside you to provide clear and easy-to-understand information and help you determine what is best in your situation.  Donwill be meeting with Christian families in our area during the week of June 21 – 24, 2010.  Call Barnabas Foundation toll-free at 888-448-3040 to set up an appointment or contact me, Joyce Eggebeen at jeggebeen@wi.rr.com.   I will be happy to share my whole story with you if you would like to know about it. It’s pretty incredible. This meeting with the Barnabas Foundation is completely free and confidential—the only information I will have is that you met with the attorney and that information is confidential with me.

ASSOCIATION MINUTES
As per our re-accreditation last year, we want you as stakeholders in the school to know that the minutes for our annual Association meeting will be available for review following the June 21 School Board meeting when they will be reviewed.

OCEF FUND RAISING EVENT
August 7, 2010 will be a golf tournament and silent and live auction at the Town and Country golf club. If you or someone you know plays golf, please consider supporting this event for OCEF, a great organization that supports our school: over $31,000 since 2004. This Oostburg Community Education Foundation has donated:
--money to our playground,
--our sound system in the gym
--Jr. High Smart Board,
--large screen in the Student Center
--Listening Center for 5K,
--computer for teacher’s room
--programs for Resource Room,
 --Spanish program
 --computers for our lab
All of these donations have affected your student, so thank you for supporting this event.

If you don’t play golf, you can always go out to Town and Country around noon to bid on the silent auction, stay for lunch for $15, Live Auction and awards.   It will be great fun!

Pie in the Park
Mark your calendars.   Our school has the privilege of selling pies in the village park on the 5th of July. This event will allow us to keep ALL tuition costs down through the profits we receive and promote the school to many who will visit the park that day. Each family is asked to donate two pies—homemade please. We ask that your pies DO NOT require refrigeration (no cream pies). Our refrigeration is very limited.

Because July 4 is on Sunday, we ask you to bring your pies to the park on Monday, July 5 by 10:00 a.m.

Be sure to join us in the park for a lot of fun and festivities as well as delicious pie!
