REQUESTS AND PRAISE
Please pray for our board, especially the Finance Committee as they propose and discuss a budget for the 2010 – 2011 school year.
Pray for the safety of the children as the weather turns warmer. Many students are now walking to school and are playing outside after school is dismissed. With clocks going forward one hour on Saturday evening, there will be even more time for the children to play outside. Pray for their protection.
Pray for all the students involved in our musicals.
Praise God for the good news received by a staff member’s family last week following cancer surgery. The doctors believe treatment will be completely effective.
Also please pray for the mother-in-law of another staff member who will have surgery on Friday. Pray the surgery is successful.

NO SCHOOL FRIDAY
One final reminder: This Friday is a day off from school for our students. The teachers will be traveling to Delavan Christian School for the Wisconsin Christian Schools Annual Spring In-service. Please pray for safe travel as our teachers drive to Delavan and as some of our families use this three-day weekend for mini-vacations.

EARLY DISMISSAL
Next Wednesday, March 17, is our monthly early-release day. School will dismiss at 1:20 PM. Buses will run at that time. There is no after-school care on early-release Wednesdays.

K – 5 MUSICAL
Excitement is building for our K-5th Grade Musical, "Go, Go Jonah", set to take place at O.C.S. next Thurs., March 18,
at 6:30 PM.  All K-4th grade students should wear blue jeans, a blue t-shirt (no words).  Each child will also need a bandana of any color; please bring the bandana  to school by Monday, March 15.  If you cannot find a bandana, please talk to Mrs. DeMaster; we do have a limited number of them at school.   Children should arrive at school at 6:15 on the night of the
performance.  Be sure to invite family and friends to this Biblical "Whale of a Tale"!

5th Grade parents were contacted via email this past week about the set-up for the musical, on Thursday, March 11, starting at 3:30 PM.  We  will wrap it up by 5:30.  Take-down will occur right after the  musical, while the students enjoy refreshments.  Thank you, in  advance, for all your help.

ATTN. 4th & 5th Grade Parents: Please remember to bring your pan of uncut bars or 3 dozen cookies by noon next Thursday, March 18, for the musical. Thanks!

JR. HIGH MUSIC NOTES
This is the "music season" in Jr High, as well.  Students are well on their way in rehearsal for Music Festival and "Annie".  Parents, please keep checking with your children in regards to learning music  and lines for these events.  It is a joy for us to see talents take flight as students apply themselves to musical learning!

The mission of Oostburg Christian School is to provide a distinctly Christian quality education which will equip God’s children to function as Christians in society, church, and home.

TALKING POINTS
How is discipline taken care of in a Christian school? The aim of discipline at O.C.S. is to build a Biblical, saving faith in each child and in so doing glorify God. By God’s grace an obedient way of life is sought in each child. This means a proper climate must exist in the classrooms and throughout the school. Any discipline that may take place at O.C.S. is carried out with love and respect. It also means school and home must work together as a team with God in the lead. Therefore if any discipline is necessary teacher and student are often found praying together asking for God’s forgiveness, grace, and guidance. As God’s family we desire to grow in the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 – 24: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such there is no law.” Please keep O.C.S. in your prayers. Pray for wisdom as parents and teachers are used by God to help the fruit of the Spirit grow in each child.

THANK YOU, MR. AND MRS. BRANDT
As you may have seen in previous Blue Notes, Keith and Ingrid Brandt are retiring from being our school janitors at the end of this week. We thank the Brandt’s (including son, John) for their faithful service to our school. We pray for God’s leading and blessing the Brandt’s as they move and seek to serve Him in the future. We also welcome Mr. and Mrs. Tim Friberg as our new janitors.

SPRING FORWARD
Don’t forget to move your clocks forward one hour on Saturday. It is time to “spring ahead” and lose an hour of sleepL.

To help prepare for public health emergencies, the American Public Health Association is reminding everyone that they need to have an emergency preparedness stockpile with at least three days of food, water and supplies. APHA’s Get Ready: Set Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks effort is encouraging people to check that their stockpiles are up to date when they change their clocks for daylight saving time and back again.
For people who don’t have an emergency stockpile yet, Set Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks offers information to help them become prepared.
The Set Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks Web site, online at http://www.getreadyforflu.org/clocksstocks includes a stockpile checklist, grocery list, stockpiling facts, tips for healthy stockpiling and stockpiling recipes. There are even games and other materials aimed at kids!
The Sheboygan County Division of Public Healthis calling on you to spread the Set Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks message to help our community become better prepared. The next clock change is coming up, so now is the time to spread the word!

NEW FAMILY REFERRAL
If a family that you refer to our school is enrolled for at least a semester, you will have a $750 tuition assistance package coming your way!   Besides the card you received several weeks ago, you can also pick up any number of brochures about our school to distribute to family and friends.   There are several different ones that may meet your need specifically:
    • Resource Room opportunities
    • Part-time/Home School student information
    • Two different general school information brochures
    • Early Childhood Brochures
    • Free 4-K package brochure
    • Just hot off the press: Cabin Fever Reliever promotion brochure.

TUITION ASSISTANCE
“No child in the area should be denied the opportunity of a Christian education because his or her family cannot afford tuition.”
It is this Board held belief that has led Oostburg Christian School to establish a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP Fund). With the current economy still in a serious slump, we believe there will be more families in need of assistance. Oostburg Christian School is partnering with the Christian School tuition Service of Fulton, Illinois, to determine how best to distribute the school’s tuition assistance to those seeking help paying tuition expenses for 2010-2011. This “outside” service can impartially evaluate family needs. The only charge is $15 per family payable to Christian School Tuition Service and sent in with the application. Please call the school office and ask for an application if you so desire. All applications should be sent in by
May 15, 2010. Please remember that families currently receiving aid through the TAP Fund must fill out an application and use this service if they wish to continue that assistance in 2010-2011.

4K REGISTRATION
We are now accepting registrations for the 4K program here at O.C.S. Stop in for a registration packet and reserve your spot today! No pre-registration fee is required for 4K.

WINTER WEATHER CLOSINGS
As “spring-like” as it’s been this week, parents and guardians are still reminded that students should have an emergency plan in case we dismiss early or if school is cancelled.   Students will be allowed to make emergency phone calls and school will stay open until transportation arrives for all students. Parents and guardians are asked to notify the school office if someone other than themselves will be providing transportation for the children. Please listen to WHBL radio (1330 on your AM dial) for closing information due to weather. You can also go to www.whbl.com and click on “Cancellations” on the left side of the home page. Parents may also tune into channel 4 and 12 on their TV for closing information. Remember, if Oostburg Public Schools close due to inclement weather, so do we (bussing).
