LAST BLUE NOTE
This is the last Blue Note of the 2007 – 2008 school year. The office staff thanks everyone for their efforts in getting announcements to the office in a timely manner. See you in September.
THINGS TO DO OVER THE SUMMER
Since this is the last Blue Note for the 2007 – 2008 school year, I thought it might be good to share some “ideas” of important things to do over the summer.
1. Please continue in the school mode. No, this does not mean waking up your children and sending them to school because Mr. Adams will be there?. Although it does get quiet at school over the summer (and I do actually miss the commotion that comes from having a school filled with children), I think the children need some time away from school. Time away from school is not time away from learning. Please use the library, take time to read, and continue to practice those math facts. If you can do nothing else, just read, read, and then read some more. Readers are our best students.
2. Go to the museum or some other educational destination. Even a trip to your extended family out-of-state can be educational when you share road maps, simple financial planning of meals, and the historical significance of your destination with your children
3. Please, please, please turn off the television, the IPod, the MP3 player, and the computer. Make your child go outside and play. And if your child says he or she is bored - good! Tell them to use their imagination and see what God has hidden in His wonderful world.
4. PLEASE read the attached editorial written by Tom Kuyper and share it with your children. Maybe read it together and discuss the main points. It certainly gives some perspective on athletics in today’s culture.
5. Finally, don’t stop having devotions. Summer is a great time to set up special family devotion time (maybe outside) or set up a devotion time for you to have with each individual child. Although time consuming, devotions with one child at a time, is most rewarding and gives each child a chance to share with you.
CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES!
Although graduation takes place tomorrow evening, we definitely want to take the time to officially congratulate the eighth graders for successfully completing their work at OCS. We pray God blesses each of them as they continue their education in high school. Please join us as we celebrate the eighth grade graduation tomorrow night at 7:30 PM in the school gym.
2008 – 2009 SCHOOL SUPPLIES
The Student Supply List for the 2008 – 2009 school year is attached to this Blue Note for your summer shopping convenience. PLEASE read the list carefully and purchase the correct items. Some supplies that are sold these days are more for entertainment than for actual school use and do not work well in the classroom. Save your money and buy only the basic items listed. Thank you.
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
This Friday, June 6, is the last day of school for all students in grades K – 7. School will dismiss at the Early Release Time of 1:20 PM. Buses will run at that time.
THANK YOU
As the year closes, we want to make a special note to thank Dawn DeMaster and Sue Schnelle who have so faithfully prepared the hot lunches all year. Many of you parents also come to help them, and we hope that you know how much it is appreciated by students and parents alike. Be sure to thank them when you see them.
K-5 MUSICAL DVD’S
Several families have not picked up their ordered DVD’s. If you ordered one, please stop in the office to pick it up. The cost is $11.00, payable to Oostburg Christian School.

HOLLAND FESTIVAL
Oostburg Christian School hopes to participate in the Holland Fest parade. Any students who wish to participate should wear their school t-shirt and plan to meet at the high school before the parade. You can look for the school banner: Go with your Heart, Go with a Christian Education. Check the Lakeshore weekly for more details.
APPAREL
Wear your t-shirts on vacation! This summer as you are traveling around, please try to wear your school shirts to raise awareness about Oostburg Christian School. Take a picture of yourselves wearing school shirts in different places, and share them with us next fall!
A last order for shirts is due (with payment) this Friday, June 6, at noon. There are also several shirts on display in the office that are for ‘cash and carry’ purchase.
4K OPENINGS
There are still openings in our 4K program for the 2008 – 2009 school year. Please call the school office if you are interested. Children must be 4 years of age by September 1 to qualify for our 4K program.
REGISTRATION FOR 2008 – 2009
Believe it or not, we are already planning for the start of the new school year. Registration will be held Tuesday evening, August 12, 2008. New parents will be invited to register first, beginning at 6:30 PM. Returning parents will be allowed to begin registration starting at 7:00 PM. A registration packet will be sent to you a few weeks before registration. If you know anyone who may be interested in sending their child to OCS, please call the school office so we can contact them. Thank you.
TUITION PAYMENTS THROUGH THE SUMMER
Please remember that tuition is calculated over 12 monthly payments. This means tuition for June and July must be paid even though school is not in session. Please make sure your summer payments reach the school office by the 15th of each month. Tuition payments may be mailed to the school at the following address: Oostburg Christian School, PO Box 700319, Oostburg, WI 53070 or dropped off in the office if staff is present.
SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
The school office will be open from 8:00 AM to noon every Wednesday throughout the summer. Most other weekdays someone will probably be in the office, however, you should call to make sure either Mr. Adams or Mrs. Nyenhuis is in if you want to stop by. Mrs. Nyenhuis is also willing to sell $crip whenever she is in. Please call ahead to make sure she is in if you want to stop in to buy $crip.
HELP NEEDED FOR OUR TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
“No child in the area should be denied the opportunity of a Christian education because his or her family cannot afford tuition.”
It is this Board-held belief that has led Oostburg Christian School to establish a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP fund). If you wish to assist those families who truly need help, please send your tax-deductable contribution to Oostburg Christian School and designate it for the TAP fund. Thank you.
REPORT CARD PICK UP
Report Cards will be available for pick up on Tuesday, June 10, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. All fines, fees, and overdue books must be taken care of before students will be given their report cards.
STUDENT ARTWORK AT THE COUNTY FAIR
If you visit the Sheboygan County Fair over the Labor Day weekend, don’t forget to stop in at the School Art Display building. Every one of our K-8 students has at least one piece of artwork on display for that weekend. We thank Curt and Betty Nyenhuis for volunteering to do the work of labeling and transporting the artwork to and from the fair so our students can have their work displayed there.
ART TEACHER NEEDED
Oostburg Christian School is seeking an art teacher beginning in the 2008 – 2009 school year. This part-time position consists of teaching art to students in grades 4 – 8. If you are interested in this position or desire more details, please call Mr. Adams at school. The school number is 564-2664. Thank you.
RENTAL CUSTODIAN NEEDED
Oostburg Christian School is seeking a Rental Custodian beginning immediately. Responsibilities are to open and close the building, turning on the heat and lights, etc. for facility rentals. OCEF FUNDRAISER
The Oostburg Community Education Fund has an opportunity to earn $7,400 through Incredible Events Fundraisers by providing workers for a YMCA picnic on Wednesday, June 25. The shift runs from 3:00 until approximately 9:30 PM on that day. If you are available please call Deb Vander Ploeg
at 564-3670.
The OCEF has given over $18,000 to our school over the past several years for needs such as a sound system for our gym, renovation of our playground, technology hardware and software, choir risers, etc. Please support this wonderful organization by calling to say you’ll help out. Thank you.
PAINTERS NEEDED
We are planning on painting the siding and doors at O.C.S. in June. We would appreciate anyone interested in helping out to call. Even if you are able to give us an hour or two, that would be great!
