JASON MENTINK MEMORIAL CHARGER SHOOT-OUT
The Jason Mentink Memorial Charger Shoot-Out will continue this weekend with the boys’ playing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  Come on out and watch some exciting basketball. If you don’t really enjoy basketball, come on out anyway and enjoy some good food and fellowship.  The doors between our Student Center and the gym are always open allowing people to eat, watch games, or just chat together.  A complete tournament schedule is included below.

HOT LUNCH ORDERS

February orders were due today.  You may still send in an order until 9:00 AM, tomorrow (Thursday).  NO orders will be accepted after that time.  Thank you.

PRE-REGISTRATION AT O.C.S.
Pre-registration forms will be coming home to your family today.  Please fill out and return it with your registration fee by Friday, March 2.  Please remember that anyone who cannot afford the registration fee at this time should contact a Finance Committee member to make arrangements.  Members of the Finance Committee are Eric Grasse (Treasurer – phone # 668-8724), Beth Modahl (Assistant Secretary Treasurer – phone # 564-6512), Justin Zylstra (Finance Committee member at large – phone # 207-9990), Brett Flipse (Finance Committee member at large – phone # 564-2398), and Bob Adams (School Administrator – phone

POSSIBLE TEACHER OPENINGS AT O.C.S.
There will possibly be some teacher openings at Oostburg Christian School in the Fall.  Mrs. DuMez is considering retiring next year.  This means there is a possible fourth grade opening for the 2012 – 2013 school year.  Also, Mr. Williams will be retiring as our band teacher.  OCS is in need of a part-time band instructor.  If you know of anyone who may be interested in either of these positions, please have them contact the school for an application and send in their resume.  Please be in prayer for our staff as they consider God’s leading in their lives.  We praise God for the tremendous, Godly teachers we have at Oostburg Christian School.

MOMS IN TOUCH PRAYER TIME
All moms are invited to a time of prayer the first and third Thursday of each month.  Moms and grandmas meet together in the library at 8:30 and bring our children and our school to God in prayer.  Come on out and join us tomorrow.

CABIN FEVER RELIEVER TOMORROW
Tomorrow, February 2, is the next date for our Cabin Fever Reliever.  This is a free playtime for children and their caregivers in our gymnasium from 8:30 – 10:00 AM.  Please join us!  Anyone interested in seeing the rest of the school is welcome to walk through during this time as well.  For more information, you can call the school office at 564-2664.

REPORT CARDS
Report cards were sent home with your child(ren) last Friday.  Please sign these and return them to school as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call your child’s teacher.  We are here to serve God by serving you and your children.

YEARBOOK ORDERS

Orders are due this Friday, February 3.  If you do not have an order form, they are available in the brochure rack across from the school office.  Or, you can put payment in an envelope with your child’s name and “Yearbook Order” on the outside.  Please order today!  We need a total of 85 yearbook orders and as of yesterday only 27 orders had been submitted.  Thank you everyone who has ordered so far!  If you have any questions, please call Wendy Urban at 564-4181.

YEARBOOK LUNCHES

Junior high yearbook lunches will begin again next Monday, February 6.  Hot dogs and/or noodle cups will be sold for $1.00 each.  Money will be collected with orders first thing Monday morning.

NEWS FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT

There are lots of things gearing up in the Music hallway these days! 

The fifth graders have begun working on the K-5 Musical, "Captain Noah and the One and Only Zoo Cruise for Twos", to be performed here at OCS on March 15, at 6:30 pm.  Fifth graders have received their parts and costume needs. The K-4th grade children will need a black t-shirt, no words, and blue jeans.  Turning a t-shirt inside out is perfectly fine; just cut the tag off. 

Our 6th-8th graders have signed up for their Music Festival events and will begin work on these in the next few weeks.  Our OCS mini-Music Festival will take place at OCS on April 26, at 6:30 pm, involving all 6th-8th graders.  The following Friday, May 4, all Jr. High students will travel to Brookfield Christian School for an all-day Music Festival.  The public is invited to all of these events.

We are also making plans for a Jr. High musical, "Alice in Wonderland".  All Jr High students will be given an opportunity to try-out for the adventurous Alice, and equally imaginative cast, on Wed, and Thurs, February 15 and 16.  Students may obtain a copy of the script and a CD for a $5 fee - these are available from Mrs. DeMaster.  Please encourage your Jr High children to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity available to them at OCS.  Any questions - see Mrs. Hancock or Mrs. DeMaster.

OPEN HOUSE ON FEBRUARY 9

Oostburg Christian School will be hosting an all-school Open House on Thursday, February 9, from

6:00 to 7:30 PM.  If you know of any families who are interested in learning more about our school, please invite them to come, or you may also give us the information and we will send them an invitation.  As always new families are always welcome to schedule a private tour and a meeting with Mr. Adams at any time.

NEW FAMILY REFERRAL
Remember to invite new families to our Open House on February 9.  If the family you refer to our school decides to enroll and stays for at least one semester you will have a $750 tuition credit coming your way.  You may use this entire credit for your own tuition, give it to the new family, or share it between both of you.  We have a number of brochures available to distribute to your family and friends.  Please ask the office for these materials or pick them up in the brochure rack outside the office.  Thank you.

4K REGISTRATION FOR 2012 – 2013
We are now accepting registrations for 4K for the 2012 – 2013 school year.  If you need a registration packet, please contact the office.

EARLY RELEASE REMINDER
Wednesday, February 15, is the third Wednesday of the month.  Students will be dismissed at 1:20 PM.  Busses and vans will run at that time.  Please remember there is no “Aftercare” beyond 1:20 PM that day.

ADOPT A UNITY GROUP AND PRAY

Unity Group prayer cards are available in the OCS office.  Take one –  the only requirement is to PRAY for the children.  The names of the children in the Unity Group are on the back of the card.  The Moms in Touch verse for this year is

Ephesians 3: 20 – 21. It is a great verse to remember when anyone prays for children.  “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!  Amen.”

SCHOOL BOARD PRAYER REQUEST

The school board is currently looking at the budget for the 2012 – 2013 school year.  Please pray for the board members and especially the Finance Committee (Eric Grasse, Beth Modahl, Brett Flipse, Justin Zylstra, and Bob Adams) as they seek God’s will for the future of Oostburg Christian School.

UNITY GROUP PROJECT AT O.C.S.

Please continue to encourage your students to be a part of our year-long project to help support children in the Tesoros de Dios ministry located in Managua, Nicaragua.

WINTER WEATHER CLOSINGS

Parents and guardians are reminded that students should have an emergency plan in case we dismiss early or if school is cancelled.  With winter around the corner the possibility of weather related closings is very real.  Students will be allowed to make emergency phone calls and school will stay open until transportation arrives for all students.  Parents and guardians are asked to notify the school office if someone other than themselves will be providing transportation for the children.  Please listen to WHBL radio (1330 on your AM dial) or check online (www.whbl.com) for closing information due to weather.  Parents may also tune into channel 4 and 12 on their TV for closing information.  Remember, if Oostburg Public Schools close due to inclement weather, so do we (bussing).  There is no aftercare if school closes due to inclement weather.

GIRLS’ WEEKEND A SUCCESS!

Congrats to our girls for taking second place in the championship game of the Jason Mentink Memorial Charger Shoot-Out!  It was an awesome weekend and we look forward to this coming one.   We appreciated the fans, support, and positive feedback.  Please remember that parents, grandparents, and high school students are welcome to substitute for your working spot.  Elementary and middle school students are not.  Thanks for coming as you are scheduled.

Don’t know of anyone playing?  Then just be sure to stop in for a meal or two.  Delicious food is being served starting at 4:00 on Thursday and Friday and all day Saturday.   This Saturday, we serve hamburgers and brats, fresh off the grill.   Yummmmmmm!

Special Silent Auction item this year:  Dutchland Plastics has donated a kayak to sell on silent auction.   Be sure to stop in and place a bid.  Do you know someone who has wanted one?   Be sure to let them know about this bonus to our tournament!!

And pray!  Pray for our coaches, teams, fans, and all workers, that God will have the glory in everything that happens on this last and important weekend.

Attention JMMCSO Tournament Workers

On Thursday and Friday night this week, the last game will be played at 6:30 instead of 7:40.  This is due to having one less team in our boy's tournament. 

HELP:  We also need 2 volunteers to work in the kitchen from 10:00-2:00 on Saturday.  If you are able to help out, please call Beth Modahl 564-6512. 

PARENTS:  Please do not leave your grade K-5 age children at the tournament unattended this weekend.  It makes for more work for the volunteers who are working the tournament.  Thanks for your help!

BARS NEEDED:  We are still in need of bars for this weekend.  All bars should be uncut 9 x 13 and something that would be easy to wrap individually.  Please have all bars to the school kitchen by 3:00 PM on Thursday, if possible.  Please call Mary Swihart at 627-3882 if you can donate some bars.

PROMOTION COMMITTEE

Oostburg Christian School is a living body of God’s world.  It moves and change as families come and go, as Board members come and go, and students come and go.

For the last several weeks we have been advertising for some people to step forward to help with the promotion of the school.   We have not heard from anyone.  Perhaps it might help for us to let you know of some of the “jobs” that need to be done and you might find that a good fit for your gifts.  

• We need someone to coordinate the ads and press releases for the Lakeshore Weekly, church bulletins,  and the Sheboygan Press specifically.  But other areas and venues could be included, like Random Lake, Port Washington.  It would also be helpful to have some ideas to broaden our exposure on Facebook or Twitter.
• We need someone to coordinate the kitchen for Promotion events like Open Houses, Grandparents’ Day, and others where we serve refreshments.  Would you be willing to use your gifts and talents here?
• We need someone who has vision for the areas where we ought to be promoting the school?  Would you be willing to help develop these new ideas .
• The School Board is beginning to make calls for new members for the Board for next year.   If you have some ideas for us in these promotion areas, perhaps you would be a great candidate to work through them as a Board member.  

Please prayerfully consider your gifts and talents and how you may use them to serve the school, either through overseeing just one event, or serving on the Promotion committee to help our current members with vision for Oostburg Christian School.
